OUR STORY

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Hello, Tapestry was born after a group of doulas met in 2019 at a full-spectrum doula training through Doula Trainings International. In that room together in Washington, DC, they heard each other's stories. Through that telling and listening, they learned even more about how crucial the role of the doula is.

Why? Doulas are knowledgeable and compassionate individuals trained and certified to provide non-clinical care to people experiencing the entire life cycle of reproductive health. There are so many needs—emotional and physical—associated with pregnancy, trying to conceive, birth and postpartum, that the medical system is often woefully inadequate to fulfill. Even our relationship to our bodies at the beginning of life, through puberty and into adulthood is largely ignored by society.

Hello, Tapestry was founded in 2020 to work toward solutions to the unsatisfactory health outcomes in the United States during the reproductive years, especially for BIPOC and LGBTQIA people. Our tiered support expands top-quality access—not just to those who can afford it.

  • When woven through some of life's most profound experiences, doula support helps to strengthen weaknesses. We chose tapestry to represent this.
  • Doulas bring comfort. We chose fabric names and qualities to describe what we do.
  • Then we added hello because, well, we want to meet you and create community!

Doula support and advocacy has been shown to "enhance resilience" to health-related factors.

The doulas at Hello, Tapestry benefit from member-to-member support as we carve out our work in the community. An affordable monthly membership provides access to regular meetups, peer review, shared marketing and organizational tools, and community outreach events.
